So it is that time of year. Been working on illustrations for the 2010 winter program. With some luck, you will be seeing these cute little guys staring back at you from shelves later this year!

Thanks for looking and enjoy…

I never had the “birds and the bees” conversation with my parents so I’m not completely sure how the analogy works, but I do have my theories.
Thanks for looking and enjoy!

I felt obligated to share this precious card that was given to me by the adorable Sage, one of the very sweet first graders at work. Enough to melt your heart, huh?
So for this year’s Valentine’s Day gift, I went all out and did two. That’s right, I will say it again, TWO projects! Only because I am a glutton for punishment and I couldn’t make up my mind.
Which normally is fine for me, it would just mean a little less sleep. To keep it a secret, I had to work on it late at night when she is fast asleep-but then I took on a SUPER rush project. Oh, did I forget to mention that I am sick too? Awesome.
So to make a long story short, I got about three hours sleep last night, and this is what I churned out. I’m pretty happy with how things turned out.
First project was a papertoy based on her…

and the second project was another illustration featuring her as the subject.

Happy to report she totally appreciated waking up to her toy waiting for her on our dresser!
Thanks for reading guys and enjoy…

“Don’t forget to stop and smell the flowers…”

I have been looking into getting into the greeting cards and thought that this design would not only work as a traditional card, but as a pop up card as well.
It is more of an everyday kind of card suggesting to enjoy life more, because let’s face it, we could all take a minute to appreciate the small simple things.

Put this together for Tara Reed’s Art Licensing Blog. Really- it’s just me talking about my big venture into licensing. Thanks for looking!

“Gettin kinda wild up in here.”
Lately I have been busting my hump putting together illustrations for my licensing portfolio and this particular piece is meant as an educational aid. It’s a work in progress, but the point is to help children learn both their alphabet and names to different species of monkeys.
For inspiration, I turned to Jill Greenberg’s book called Monkey Portraits. I came across it online one day and simply had to have it. The monkeys faces are so human and expressive, you’d think they were computer generated.
Anyhow, once I make more progress on this, I will make sure to post it up here so stay tuned.
Also by special request, I whipped up a “crazy puma/tiger/cougar” for one of my kids at work. Can’t get much crazier than the universal nutso hand guesture, right? Um… Do people still do that anymore or was that only in the cartoons I grew up watching? Oh well, she’s in grade school so hopefully she still gets it.

Anyhow, enjoy people!
Every year my alma mater, California State University of Northridge or CSUN for short, invite local high school artists to showcase their artwork in the University’s art gallery.
This year, they decided to extend that invitation to High School staff members too. So I thought, “Why not?”
The show is currently open and will go on till January 29th. In it, I have an 11×14 inch framed limited edition print of “Boomboxhead Expressing Himself”. So feel free to pop on in. Just another reason to come to the valley.
For directions or additional details about the show, just click on poster above. Thanks for looking and enjoy…

Okay, I have to confess. I am not the true artist behind this card. This was given to me by a very talented first grader by the name of Brandon.
I thought it appropriate to use it here since I don’t think I could do a better job.
With the beginning of not only a new year but a new decade, I feel I have a lot to be thankful for and I just wanted to take some time and acknowledge just who am thankful for.
To Anna and Devo, the Hi-Fructose art book is perfect! You guys know me too well and rock for it…
To the Blevins Family, a meal from CPK will come in handy when my wife and I are just too beat to cook anything…
To the Chezem Family, you can never go wrong with lolly pops and a giftcard from Target. Thanks…
To the Cypheridges, Leeds and Van Halens, thanks for the Amazon gift certificate. Now if my wife and I can just narrow down just what to use it on…
To the Di Donato Family, the coffee beans will good if I ever need to pull an all-nighter…
To Melissa E., your generous gift will go a long way with making my life that much more easier. Thanks…
To the Hedge Family, who knew peppermint candy could be so tasty?
To the Henderson Family, the password directory will help me remember all my passwords. Just need to remember where I leave the directory now…
To the Vogel Family, a gift card to Continental art store will not go to waste with me. Now I can stock up on all sorts of goodies!
And to all the parents of whom I neglected to mention, I thank you for all your generosity. Despite these tough times, you still managed to show how much I am appreciated at the school.
And this has been a long time coming, but years ago Jan Evans, a talented watercolor artist, went out of her way for me and I would like her to know that after all this time, I still am moved by her gesture.
To my parents, for trekking as far as they did to spend some quality time with your sons and daughter-in-law…
To my in-laws, for letting us escape our reality, complete with room and board…
I would like to thank my Brother and his girlfriend for the limited edition Man-at-Arms sculpture. After all these years, as grown men, we still get to play with “toys.”
Lastly, I would like to thank my wife. She puts up with a lot from me and is still here when I wake up in the morning. God bless her…
Hope your holidays were enjoyable and here’s to a bright and hopeful new year…
